Hello, welcome to Arista Advice! Question of the week is: "Paul, what do you think about oil and inflation?" Well, let me share with you something. My dear friends, investors, family, and associates this is not something new.
Going back to 1971, the last 50 years of economic data, the Federal Reserve has raised interest rates eight times. Seven of those eight times the stock market has rewarded investors for staying put and staying on the long-term investment train, but let me share with you something.
This is the front cover of Time Magazine on April, 8th 1974: "World Inflation" "Oh the sky is falling!" No. Inflation, no inflation, stagflation, recession, growth, no growth. It's just a recurring message in the economic cycle. So, inflation, this is not the first time, and it won't be the last time.
Look at this cover - October 14th, 1974. There's President Ford, who replaced Nixon, rolling up his sleeves and saying "Trying to fight back inflation, recession, and oil." Oil and inflation go hand-in-hand, and if you think that today's news is something new, look at this cover going all the way back to October of 1972 - Henry Kissinger, Israel, "On the Brink of Peace?" Countries not getting along or getting along, they are friends, they're foes, going back and forth, it's a recurring broken record, and, unfortunately, Russia is invading Ukraine. It's tragic. It's unacceptable, but it's occurring, and hopefully there'll be a happy and peaceful resolution.
I share with you these covers from Time Magazine to help you take things in perspective that today's news needs to be really measured. Please take an inventory of how much time you're spending on the news and on apps and on TV consumption, and potentially reduce your intake of media consumption, while Russia, Ukraine, and other NATO countries try to get a peaceful resolution to preserve life.
